FAQ

What is the size of the community?

The community will stay within the current development area not impeding into the natural environment. The luxury hotel will include guest rooms and living quarters available to staff. The spa will be one of the largest Nordic spas in North America offering an array of treatment options. Numerous other recreational amenities will be found in and around the development.

Will local residents be able to use the spa and facilities?

Absolutely. Local residents will have the opportunity to purchase daily, monthly, seasonal and yearly passes at reduced rates to access the spa. Reservations will be required.

Can we rent out the unit ourselves through Airbnb?

No Airbnb or other rental programs will be allowed on site. Rentals will be strictly through the onsite management group (a major hotel brand to be named at a later date), when not in use.

Who will own the development?

The spa will be owned and maintained by the development group (current ownership team). The Hotel will be managed through a professional management team. The hotel condo will allow individuals to own suites, which include founding memberships to the Nordic Spa, and share in the success of the Talisman community. Owners of the hotel suites will have the opportunity to use them when they wish.

What is a founding membership?

Each unit sold will include two founding memberships that will remain with that unit. The membership will allow the owner or the guest, access to the spa on a daily basis. When the unit is sold the membership will remain with the unit for future owners/users. Founding memberships are only available to hotel units and cannot be sold or transferred independently.

Will there be a lot of traffic caused by the spa and hotel?

Traffic will certainly increase from the current situation as the Talisman has been closed for more than 12 years.

Traffic will however be more controlled compared to all other Nordic spas in Ontario. All other Nordic spas are day use only, with no onsite hotel option. These spas experience rush hour times when people arrive on the morning and another rush hour at the end of the day, plus all the traffic in between. The Talisman will have a luxury hotel on site which will allow most visitors to the spa the ability to stay overnight onsite and enjoy the spa and numerous other onsite and local facilities. They will truly be staying and playing in nature. This will eliminate the rush hour traffic and permit a more moderate level of traffic spread throughout the day.

How will the Talisman Mountain Springs Inn hotel change the landscape?

Great efforts have been made to make sure that Talisman hotel and spa creates the smallest possible affect to the views and landscape of the Beaver Valley. For example, all vehicles will be hidden from view allowing over 5 acres of new greenspace over-top of the parking garage. Adding the architectural firm of Paul Raff studios to the team has ensured that Talisman will be built to integrate with the natural surrounding. The award winning team is a world leader in sustainable building with the natural environment.

When will the Spa and Hotel be completed?

Once all approvals are in place, the Talisman marketing program will begin immediately. The financial group will be in place so the servicing and construction will begin quickly. The hotel units are planned to be prefabricated off site and delivered completely finished to be stacked on site. Not only does this ensure minimal waste going to the landfill but allows for a far superior product completed months ahead of regular onsite construction.

Will the hillside trails be available to the public?

Plans are to allow public access to many of the trails including connectivity to the Bruce Trail.

Will the new health and wellness community create more noise for the local residents surrounding the revitalized development?

The former Talisman ski resort has been closed for more that 12 years so many newcomers to the area will not be familiar with the noise created by the former ski resort. During ski season, the former ski resort was a very busy location with an average of 20 to 25 school buses full of school aged children learning to ski and over a hundred cars per day (staff and visitors) during the weekdays with upwards of 1,200 people on the very active slopes. Weekends were similar in activity.

In order to maintain the numbers of skiers, a great deal of maintenance was carried out on the hills both during the day and throughout the night with 2-3 groomers on the hills preparing for the next days’ activities and snow making guns running throughout the night along with the maintenance people on snow mobiles.

The revitalized Talisman Mountain Springs Inn will be a Health and Wellness Community built around the Nordic Spa and surrounded by nature. The resort’s design with on-site staff accommodations and overnight lodging also aims to limit daily car trips and reduce traffic impacts. The noise from the resort will mostly be that of the natural habitat that takes up refuge in the re-naturalized hills.

How will the revitalized Talisman affect night skies in the area?

The former Talisman ski resort was highly lit with older technology. The ski hills were open for night skiing which therefore required lighting on the hills.
The nighttime hill maintenance required lighted hills with machinery running most of the night. The new resort will see dark skies and on clear nights an endless show of stars for both visitors and locals to embrace.

All efforts will be made to minimize any negative effects on the local night sky. The planned exterior lighting will be LED technology which allows for dimming at certain times at night and downward lighting will be utilized to minimize any effects to the natural dark skies. As a Health and Wellness Community surrounded by nature, we believe that the dark night sky is one of our valued features to the resort.
